ESG & Sustainability

What are the ESG & Sustainability Audits?

An ESG professional is a change-maker in corporate sustainability. The three pillars of sustainability People, Planet, and Profit form the foundation of responsible and resilient business practices. Within this framework, ESG executives play a crucial role, particularly in enabling and strengthening the People pillar through ethical governance, social responsibility, and workforce well-being.

A sustainability (ESG) report is a formal disclosure published by organizations to communicate the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) impacts of their business activities. These reports help stakeholders clearly understand how a company influences the environment and society, while also enabling assessment of key risks and opportunities associated with sustainability performance. As a strategic communication tool, sustainability reporting plays an essential role in building credibility and assuring stakeholders of the sincerity and effectiveness of a company’s ESG actions.

The growing importance of sustainability reporting is driven by increasing demands from investors, regulators, customers, and other stakeholders for greater transparency in sustainability practices and ESG strategies. In response, several legislative and regulatory frameworks have either come into force or are under development, including:

  • Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) – in force since January 2023
  • Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDD) – draft stage
  • Proposed EU Regulation on Ecodesign Requirements for Sustainable Products

Prior to the adoption of CSRD, voluntary frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards were widely used by European companies. Along with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), these standards have significantly influenced the development of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
